Similar to stage 1, this stage is challenging due to it’s length combined with the extreme heat and humidity usually present. Hydration and nutrition along with replacing lost electrolytes is critically important. Villa Nueva and the town of Naranjito provide ample resupply, restaurant, and other places of recovery. After that there are no such opportunities until Quepos at the end of the stage.
The road is flat and begins traversing farm villages, grazing fields, and finally passes the Blue Banyon Inn who’s property contains the Kids Saving the Rainforest project. From there we enter into a several thousand hectare Oil Palm plantation which provides some shade protection from the sun. We emerge from the Oil Palm plantation onto major highway 34. There we turn right and head for the entrance to Quepos on the left. This final stretch of busy commercial route 235 takes us finally to our destination, the Pacific Ocean.
Note: Quepos is a popular tourist town with much to see and do. From here there are many options for returning to the Central Valley or wherever your plans in Costa Rica take you.
