While this stage is a relatively modest 10.0 km in length, the steep grades of the climbs up to Cerro Alto take their toll. With over 900 meters (3,000 feet) of climbing at altitudes reaching 2,200 meters (7,200 feet), frequent rest stops and hydration/nutrition breaks will make this a strenuous hike for sure.
Steep ascents, high elevation, roadside waterfalls, and beautiful views of the surrounding farms and pasturelands, interspersed with the dense primary rainforest make this one of the most interesting and challenging areas.
