The trail leaves Navarro de Muneco by turning right at the southwest corner of the soccer field and crossing the Rio Navarro on a concrete bridge. The route quickly leaves route 405 at a hard left and then takes a right turn up a hill on a dirt and gravel road that soon devolves into a rugged, frequently washed out track. On this track the route climbs steadily and often steeply.
After the initial ascent, the grades moderate and the road becomes more pleasant. The route follows a ridge line and passes lovely farms with great views and then descends briefly before reaching the InterAmericana Highway. Turning left, on the highway, walk single file against traffic for about 100 meters and leave the highway to the left and begin the long descent toward Palo Verde. Passing the town of Palo Verde, the route continues on asphalt that transitions to gravel and quickly becomes considerably less traveled.
The area here is densely forested and the road becomes rolling and dotted with farms.
