Leaving Pacayitas, the stage begins with an ascent of 3 kms and 350 meters (1.8 miles, 1,200 feet) through sugarcane fields which soon transition to farms and ranches, and then back to sugarcane.
As the height of land is approached, and eventually crested, the area opens up to expansive fine views of rolling hills framed by mountain ranges, and the pavement transitions to gravel with some asphalt on steeper sections. The views become ever more sweeping and idyllic as the long descent to La Suiza begins. As the town is approached, the pavement resumes.
At the intersection of route 414 the route turns to the right, but the many amenities of this larger town are to the left. These include major resupply, restaurants, pharmacy, hardware store, and one of only 3 ATM’s on the trail. After completing town stops, return back to the route another kilometer to the adjacent community of Canada and the Rio Tuis at the end of Stage 6.
