As pointed out before, this stage is typically combined with Stage 3. After leaving the clearing of the Cabecar tribal settlement of Tsiobata, the trail reenters the jungle and begins the 1.2 km descent to Rio Pacuare.
To cross this major river that is often in flood stage on foot is NOT RECOMMENDED in times of high water. There is a manually operated overhead cable car, known in Spanish as a Andarivel, that is used to cross the river. Passengers, with the help of their guide, pull themselves across using a rope which is tied to the metal cable car and loops through pulleys. Be sure to leave the basket unhooked for the next passengers to be able to retrieve it. Your guide will assist with this operation.
On the far side of the river, we begin our ascent to Ganaderia Tres Equis, a cattle ranch known for raising breeding / sporting bulls that are very aggressive. You will get safely through here if you stay with your guide and follow instructions. The guide understands the behavioral pattern of these animals, you likely don’t. Having crossed this ranch, we arrive at the entrance to Finca Tres Equis, the end of this stage and say goodbye and thank you to our guide for the invaluable service rendered.
